Jim Chaney is Senior Vice President of Reserves and Evaluation Engineering at Hunt Oil Company. In this role he oversees the company reserve reporting, reservoir characterization group, technical peer reviews, and technical software and data purchases for the company.

He was previously Vice President of the West Texas Business Unit which he helped grow from 5000 BOEPD to 70,000 BOEPD before its divestiture in 2021. Chaney joined Hunt in 2010. Prior to this, he was employed at Pioneer Natural Resources where he led worldwide reserve reviews, and at Nexen Petroleum where he ended his 17–year tenure as the U.S. Chief Engineer responsible for engineer recruiting and training, and worldwide project technical reviews.

He graduated Cum Laude from the Missouri School of Science and Technology with a degree in Mining Engineering, and became a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas in 2008.
