We are very proud of the rich and storied legacy of the Hunt organization. Our history goes back to December 18, 1934 when H.L. Hunt founded Hunt Oil Company. Initially, Hunt Oil Company's activities were limited to the East Texas oil field, but over the years the Company grew substantially and, today, Hunt Oil Company can point to successes around the world (e.g. we have drilled oil wells on every continent except Antarctica) and a family of companies which operates in important new areas that have nothing to do with energy.
Hunt Oil Company has, over the years, been the catalyst which led to the creation of new areas of businesses including energy, real estate, investments, ranching and infrastructure. Each entity, however, shares a common heritage and corporate culture – and the attributes that made Hunt Oil Company the success it is today are the same attributes found in every other Hunt company.
We are unique in a number of ways. First, and most obvious, is the fact we are a family-owned private company – which affords us a number of unique competitive advantages (e.g. – taking a truly long term view when making business decisions).
Another characteristic that one finds across our organization is the emphasis we place on attracting and retaining the most highly-qualified personnel possible. The men and women who comprise the Hunt companies are our most important asset.
In terms of our day-to-day activities, we are very proactive and aggressive from an operational point of view – but we balance that strategy with a correspondingly conservative financial philosophy. This is a combination that has served us very well over our eight decades of growth.
The management structure of our family of companies consists of a parent holding company – Hunt Consolidated, Inc. – and two “intermediate holding companies.” Hunt Consolidated Energy is the intermediate holding company which oversees our energy and infrastructure activities. Hunt Consolidated Investments is responsible for our real estate, investment and agribusiness operations – plus other new ventures. The two intermediate holding companies coordinate their activities closely and are led by Hunter L. Hunt and Chris W. Kleinert, respectively.
