Vice President, Middle East Exploration
Neil Judge is vice president of Middle East exploration for Hunt Oil Company and is responsible for all exploration activities in the Middle East Region.
He has more than 35 years of industry experience as an “oil finder” gained in a variety of domestic and international assignments. He began his career in 1977 in the London office of Phillips Petroleum working as an exploration geophysicist and rapidly progressed to exploration leadership roles in Denver, Midland and Stavanger, Norway. During his 20 years with Phillips, Judge was instrumental in implementing the use of advanced technology, including pioneering 3-D seismic methods, to optimize exploration and field development. He championed the use of multi-disciplinary teams in domestic and international E&P projects, and played a key role in several significant domestic and international oil discoveries.
He left Norway in 1997 to join Hunt Oil Company in Dallas, where he applied his broad exploration experience to a variety of domestic and international projects in Africa, South America, Australia, Europe, the former Soviet Union and the Middle East.
Notable achievements during his time at Hunt are the re-evaluation and rejuvenation of the Amacker Tippett field in West Texas with the use of 3-D reservoir characterization techniques, the first successful implementation of horizontal drilling using 3-D seismic-guided geo-steering, his key role in the early days of the Camisea project and the Camisea LNG feasibility study and most recently his leadership of the Kurdistan exploration team.
Judge has a bachelor’s degree in physics from the University of Durham in the UK and a Master of Science degree in Geophysics from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London.
